You can keep the diyas for decor purpose instead of lighting it on daily basis also. During special occasions for small duration you can lit them to prevent heavy cleaning. Peathamabri powder / tamarind and salt and lemon can also be used to clean the uruli . Weekly once cleaning will keep the color intact. Without cleaning due to oxidisation the surface color can change. So regular cleaning (weekly once or twice a month ) is necessary as per your usage .
